The Defence School Mentor (DSM) provides assistance to Defence students and their families and raises awareness of the unique needs of these families due to the military lifestyle. The Defence Community Organisation (DCO) has provided funding to Highfields State School since 2003 in order to engage a Defence School Mentor.
Our Defence School Mentor provides support to the children of Defence families, aiming to minimise the impact of mobility on their education. Support is provided to these children and their families in four key areas as they move from one school to another: welcoming, integrating, parental absence (due to Service reasons), and farewelling.
