Swimmers are welcome to leave the carnival after their last event of the carnival/evening.

 

Winners will be announced and trophies presented on next whole school assembly.

 

Highfields State School Inter-school Carnival Rules

 

All students who participate will receive a ‘swimming’ ribbon for participating.

 

Swimmers will swim in events with their calendar age level peers. A 9 year old swimmer will turn 9 or has turned 9 between January 1st and December 31st in 2018. They were born in 2009.

NB: ONLY 8 YEAR OLD STUDENTS IN YEAR 3 ARE ELIGIBLE TO SWIM in the year 3-6 swimming carnival.

 

8 year old swimmers swim 25m events only.

 

8 year old age champions are decided on 25m events points only.

 

50m/Medley events = 1st to 4th ribbons /age champion points / 1st to 4th house points and participation points(5th onwards)

 

25m events = 1st to 4th house points and participation points(5th onwards) only.

 

Age champion medallions will be awarded to the swimmer who receives the most points in their age group over their up to 5 events (boys and girls champions separate).

 

The Most Outstanding Male and Female Swimmer trophy will be awarded to the boy and girl age champions who receive the most points, of all the boys/girls 9-12 years old that swim on the evening.

 

A swimmer who chooses to swim a 25m event in a stroke cannot swim a 50m event in that stroke.

 

Where there are more than 8 swimmers for an event, two heats will be run and timed. 1st to 4th places will be based on the four fastest times recorded across the two heats.

 

Swimmers nominating for 4 x 25m Medley events should be able to swim all strokes proficiently.

 

In the spirit of fair competition and fairness to all competitors swimmers must swim each stroke correctly. Swimmers who gain an advantage by not swimming a stroke correctly will be re-placed within the event and still receive house points for participation. No swimmers will be disqualified. This is especially the case for breast stroke and medley events.​
