Sing Out 2016

It was an exciting day starting at 7.45am in the cold and drizzly weather. Eventually we were all marked off the roll and we boarded the bus not really knowing what was ahead of us. When we arrived there were hundreds of the students milling around, buses, teachers and parents everywhere.

We had a lovely room overlooking the activity on Neil Street but soon were inside the beautiful Empire Theatre warming up with our conductor, Astrid Jorgensen. Astrid had a clear and powerful voice that led 500 students from 16 schools in rounds, exercises and songs. Each school performed a song for everyone to hear, which was received with loud applause. Morning tea, more performances, lunch, another combined rehearsal and then climbing onto the scaffolding and moving into place – amazing!

When the curtain opened and the audience saw all of the students arranged on the stage they gasped in awe. The students looked and sounded simply wonderful. Without a doubt, this will remain a highlight in the memory of the students and the many parents who attended the evening performance.

Thank you to all the parents who came to hear the choir sing. Without your support this wouldn't happen. And to the students of Highfields Senior Choir – Congratulations from a very proud conductor!
