Remembrance Day

This year the 11th of November marked the 97th anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War. To commemorate this special occasion, a Remembrance Day Service was conducted during Friday parade on the 6th of November. Three Defence students from Year 6; Joshua Truscott, Harper Lanigan and Kelly White; conducted the service with confidence and are to be commended for their dedication practicing to make this event a success.

With the assistance of Mr Andrew Mathewson (teacher), Mrs Jo Corcoran (librarian) and resources from Borneo Barracks, an amazing military display was set up in the library for Week 6. Our students were amazed that they were able to sit in an Army tent with camouflage netting INSIDE the library! On a recent holiday Mr Mathewson visited Villers-Bretonneux (France) and spoke to a Year 6 teacher at the local school. Mr Mathewson and the Year 6 teacher are currently setting up a pen pal program between our students and those in France.

On Tuesday the 10th of November, Al Taylor, a veteran from the Highfields RSL, visited our library during first break and answered any questions that the students may have had. It was an honour to have Mr Taylors support and the support of the RSL who donated a poppy to each of our students.

On Wednesday the 11th of November, Remembrance Day, our entire school community paused at 11am to remember all those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.
