It was a very exciting morning on March 21 for
students in the Prep D classroom at Highfields State School, putting on odd
socks and celebrating World Down Syndrome Day with their friend and classmate,
Lucas Wren.
Lucas brings so much joy, fun and friendship to the class, as well
as sharing his love of music! The students had fun wearing their odd
socks and had many questions about the background to the day.
The date for World Down Syndrome Day, being the 21st
day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the
triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome.
The day has been marked since 2012.
