International Visitors to Our School

Highfields State School recently hosted a visit from two teachers from a school in Cambodia. The Tanop Community Education Centre provides English lessons to over 2 000 students in the village of Tanop and surrounding villages. The school was established by the Singing Kites Foundation in 2007. The organisation also provides dental care for the students, improved water supply to the village, supports students to continue their education at university in Phnom Penh and several other community based projects. Channa spent her day working with our Prep and year teachers and students, while Teth joined in teacher planning meetings and also spoke to our year 5 and 6 students and answered lots of their questions. Both Teth and Channa had a wonderful day and commented on how friendly our teachers and students were. They are looking forward to taking back what they learnt and trying it in Tanop. By hosting Teth and Channa we are doing our little bit in supporting children in a very poor community.
