Cows Create Careers

19/08/2014
6E has been involved in the Cows Create Careers program for the past three weeks. The children have the responsibility of feeding, watering and monitoring the well being of two dairy heifers. The class christened the calves Minnion and Charlie Brown.
Over the last two weeks, there have been two guest speakers. Mrs Klepper, who imparted information about manure and the important role it plays in sustainability and Mrs Eales, a local vet, who spoke about the importance of colostrum for a newly born calf. She also spoke about the paralysis tick.
There are a number of other activities that the class is still to complete including a group photo, producing a short movie and a writing a scientific report.
It has been great fun and has been the catalysis for some rich learning activities.
