Tuesday 7th March saw the Highfields Chess Team enter the Toowoomba Individual Chess Tournament. The team comprised of 13 students from across years 4 to 6. It was a great day with eight rounds of chess held involving 27 schools and 352 students participating. Our team, overall, performed well but we were not able to win a trophy. Our high achievers were Lachlan Allpass, James Allmond, Brendan Sweetman, Ashton Eggins, Sam Coleborn and Logan King. Charles Herden, Georgie Adams, Eliza Maidment and Corey Radloff gave it a ‘red hot’ crack being new to the chess club. Tiana Kessanis broke her drought of draws and scored a few wins while Scott Merrick kicked of the day with a few wins also. Cooper Temple-Watts ended the day pleased with a PB.
All is good in the world of chess. The club aims to train all through Term 2 in preparation for the Team Chess Tournament in Term 3.
Cheers Mr P Thornton
