Chess - State Tournament

Last week the Queensland State Chess Tournament was held.  Highfields had qualified and the team of William Parker, Ashley Farhadi, Seth McMahon and Andrew Williamson headed to Churchie College, Brisbane to participate.

Teams from all over Queensland were present.  The Tournament consisted of four rounds on the Saturday and two rounds on the Sunday.

The boys showed great skill and sportsmanship however not enough games were won to achieve a placing. In my eyes the boys are already winners to get to this level.

Chess takes great patience, skills and resilience and all four boys showed an abundance of these.

I thank them for representing the school and it has shown that Highfields Chess Club is fit and healthy because this is the fourth year in a row a team has qualified and attended the Queensland Tournament.

The Highfields Chess Club starts up next year Week 2 Term 1.
